Responsibilities

The Laboratory Technician will primarily be responsible for supporting the Science Program at the relevant Campus, through the Head of Science. More specifically, they will be responsible for the following:

  • Setting up equipment for Science department activities as directed
  • Keeping benches and laboratories as clean and tidy as practical, and assist in keeping the
  • Science department secure during school hours
  • Ordering and maintaining a stock of consumable items required for classroom experiments
  • Working with teaching staff to ensure that the appropriate equipment and consumable items are readily available to complete practical sessions at the assigned times
  • Maintaining a resource inventory within the Science department
  • Ensuring proper storage and labelling of chemicals according to requirements of appropriate authorities
  • Maintaining records as required by authorities
  • Trailing experiments as directed
  • Liaising with the maintenance department for any repair work required within the Science department
  • Additional related duties, as negotiated with and delegated by the Head of Department from time to time
  • While the primary responsibilities of the position are articulated, it is expected that the incumbent will engage with the School community and participate fully in a range of events and activities.

Required

  • A successfully completed Working with Children Check
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate OHS and safety concerns within the science lab and classroom environments
  • An ability to multi-task, with strong time management and organisational skills

  • Experience of working with children from a culturally and/or linguistically diverse background
