My role in business advisory (BA) as a fresh graduate includes compliance work for mid-to-low sized companies and trusts as well as moderately wealthy individuals. I spend most of my time in our company accounting software either reconciling or reviewing reports and preparing workpapers to consider the tax implications of each client's unique dealings. Whilst I spend most of my time on compliance work, I feel my primary duty as a graduate is to learn from my seniors - accepting feedback wherever I can, attending learning & development sessions and getting to know my team better.

As a Graduate Auditor, I am assigned work by Senior Auditors. I usually spend about 2-4 weeks working on a client. I do stock takes and I work on testing the accounts of a client, for example revenue testing, expenses testing, trade and other payables testing - we test these accounts for materiality issues. For example, if accounts have increased or decreased by more than a certain % year-on-year than we need to investigate with the client as to why. We also do some other testing called reasonableness testing - which is basically where we test an amount to ensure that the movement is reasonable or unreasonable during a financial year.
